LIPPS
(Language Interaction in Plurilingual and Plurilectal Speakers).
The LIPPS Group (Language Interaction in Plurilingual and
Plurilectal Speakers) is an international group of researchers
whose aim is to set up a computerised bilingual, mixed-language
database of open access to the researchers, and to develop
appropriate transcription standards and software to enable
the maximum development and use of the electronic database.
The group was set up in 1994. In 2000 the LIPPS Group published
The LIDES Coding Manual, 'A Document for Preparing and
Analysing Language Interaction Data' , as a special
issue of the International Journal of Bilingualism (Vol.
4, No. 2, June 2000; ISSN 1367-0069, London: Kingston Press).
Such manual is based on the already existing system, CHILDES,
applied to the analysis of child language. M. Teresa Turell
and Montserrat Forcadell have been active members of the
group since its foundation, and co-authors of this manual.
NWAV (New Ways of Analysing Variation).
This is an international network that organises annual conferences
on sociolinguistic variation and brings together language
variation scholars from all over the world. The last conference,
NWAV'36, took place at the University of Pennsylvania, in
October 2007, and the next one, NWAV'37,
will be held at Rice University (Houston, Texas).
ICLaVE (International Conference on Language Variation
in Europe). This is a network that brings together all European
scholars devoted to language variation and change. The first
of them was organised in Barcelona by UVAL in 2000. ICLaVE
2, ICLaVE 3, and ICLaVE 4 took place in Uppsala (2003),
Amsterdam (2005), and Nicosia (Cyprus) (2007), respectively.
M. Teresa Turell is member of the ICLaVE scientific committee.
Associations
IAFL
(International Association of Forensic Linguists). This
is an association which brings together forensic linguists
and experts in language and the law from all over the world.
These scholars publish their research results in forensic
linguistics and report on their performance as expert witnesses
in real cases in The International Journal of Speech,
Language and the Law (formerly, Forensic Linguistics).
M. Teresa Turell is the IAFL Secretary for the Euro zone.
