Master on Terminology and Lexicography Postgraduate Diploma in Specialized Lexicography and Terminology

The Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada (University Institute for Applied Linguistics) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra was founded in order to develop third-cycle research and teaching activities in the field of applied linguistics. Lexicography is one aspect of applied linguistics with no specific training programmes. Thus, since the beginning of IULA, a training course orientated along professional bias was put forward. During the 1994-2000 period, IULA has already carried out three training programmes in lexicography and specialized lexicography.

The goal of this program is to prepare high-level lexicography professionals, who can take part not only in the writing task of a dictionary, but also in the conception, organization and coordination of lexicographic and terminological projects. Lexicography professionals must be able to describe the language or languages they work with, they must know the principles of general monolingual lexicography and the specificities of other lexicographic and terminological products. Besides, they have to master the tools and resources available, which aid in the lexicographic work.

Several firms and institutions specialized in lexicography and terminology participate in this program, ensuring the high quality of the course.
