The group Infolex was created in 1994 with the foundation of the Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA) and the participation of some its members in the doctoral program and master in Lexicography organized by IULA.

The name of the group tells about the two axes that compose it: Info from information and informatization together with lex from lexis and lexicography. The interest of our group is the study of lexis as the object of dictionaries, both monolingual and bilingual, and the information that it carries on and that dictionaries may carry on. All Its members have research work on vocabulary and lexicon from different points of view, mainly descriptive and applied. The working groups search for precise and detailed descriptions of semantic, morphologic and syntactic aspects that are treated or may be treated in dictionaries and which study may also give lexicographic improvements (separation of meanings, treatment of polysemy, verified equivalences, etc.). The working languages are Catalan, Spanish, French, and English.

The group also takes part in projects with lexicographic publishing companies and institutions that need reliable vocabularies.
