[19/05/15] The IULA regrets the passing of renowned linguistAdam Kilgarriff

Adam KilgarriffWe regret to announce the passing of Dr. Adam Kilgarriff, who died on May 16 at his home in Brighton, U.K. at the age of 55 after a short battle with colon cancer. Dr. Kilgarriff's work on computational lexicography is well-known to many, as he developed the widely used tool, the Sketch Engine®, that facilitates analysis of large amounts of corpus data.

A very active researcher, Dr. Kilgarriff visited the IULA on many occasions, as a lecturer in Ministery-sponsored faculty mobility programmes (DCT2004-00097), as a consultant to research projects, and as a participant in conferences. He was one of the featured teachers at the Lexicom Workshop organized by the IULA in July, 2008, immediately prior to the XIII International EURALEX Congress, at which he also spoke.

He will be missed by many in the research community.
