[24/04/15] The impact of M. Teresa Cabré’s work on the Catalan language

M. Teresa Cabré was awarded last week the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Cross) by the Government of Catalonia. She is the founder and person in charge of the IULATERM group, as well as one of its active members. She is also the current President of the Institute of Catalan Studies’ Philological Section.  Among other aspects, the resolution underlines “the importance of her scientific and teaching career, which has contributed to the prestige of the Catalan language”.

She is recognised for contributing to the organisation and management of several research and service structures, such as the Centre for Terminology TERMCAT; the Catalan Language Service of the University of Barcelona; the University Institute for Applied Linguistics; the Neology Observatory; the IULATERM research group; and the new Pompeu Fabra Chair.

We, as colleagues of hers in the research group, want to join the celebrations by offering a summary of her academic achievements that make her deserving of this and other awards:

These three aspects are only a small part of her work. She has also developed accurate and prestigious work in the field of lexicography (articles, books, dictionaries and databanks), lexicology (grammar studies, handbooks and articles; all of them essential references) and in her effort for the standardisation of Catalan from all the initiatives and institutions she has collaborated with.

Congratulations, Teresa.
