Dr. Turell, Professor of English at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Director of the Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada between 2004 and 2007, was also the founder and director of the research group UVAL and of the ForensicLab.
In recent years, she fought fiercely against illness, without ever abandoning her interest in and dedication to quality research in applied linguistics, especially in the areas of variation, sociolinguistics and forensic linguistics.
Maite, as we all knew her, remained active in her academic duties throughout her illness. She was involved in teaching, research, directing theses, and leading her group up until the last moment, and was steadfast in her commitment to the IULA as an international centre of reference in applied linguistics research.
She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 25 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Tanatori de Collserola in Barcelona, where funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26 at 12:15 p.m.
