IULA-UPF-PIF (Research Staff Training) Grants
Description: Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) grant programme for researchers in training that are registered on PhD programmes.
Places offered: 1 full-time grant for junior researchers admitted to the UPF’s PhD programmes, linked to one of the areas of research of the Institute of Applied Linguistics (IULA).
Deadline for submission of applications to the secretary of the IULA: 20/09/2011
Conditions:
- Duration: One year with an option to renew for a second conditional on a positive evaluation of the activities related to the grant, a successful viva for the project before the established deadline, and the registration of the doctoral thesis in one of the IULA’s areas of research. Subsequent renewals: The possible linking of the candidate (third and fourth years) to whichever research group is receiving the doctoral thesis, through contracts attached to research projects. Places are limited by the group’s number of available tutors and amount of available funding.
- Amount paid per month: €981.44
- Full/part time: Full time; it may not be combined with any other grant or contract.
- Attendance: Full-time at the UPF’s facilities. The place of work to be assigned by the IULA.
- Active participation in one of the IULA’s research groups.
Requirements for candidates:
- Applicants shall have successfully completed the credit requirements for an official Research Preparation Master’s programme, have obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA), or have obtained the Certificate of Aptitude for Research (CSI) for a previous doctoral-research programme.
- Applicants shall be preregistered with one of the UPF’s PhD programmes.
- Applicants shall not be in receipt of any similar subsidies for the PhD (UPF, Researcher Training (FI), Researcher Training Grants for PhD Programmes at Catalan Universities in the Social Sciences and Humanities (FI-ADQUA), University Lecturer Training (FPU), Research Staff Training (FPI) and related).
Selection criteria:
- Evaluation of the academic record on application
- Mark obtained for Master’s research work (or PhD programme)
- Number of higher-level qualifications (Bachelor’s, Master’s, postgraduate diploma, DEA, other PhDs)
- Proof of active and passive knowledge of foreign languages
- Proof of IT skills and abilities
- Demonstration of interest and assessment of the CV by the research group responsible for the area of research in which the candidate is to be registered

IULA-UPF-MAST Grants
Description: Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) grant programme for students on official Master’s courses and PhDs
Places offered: 1 part-time grant for students admitted onto the UPF’s official Master’s courses in the academic year 2008-2009, in the research category, linked to the subjects into which the Institute of Applied Linguistics (IULA) conducts research (linguistics, translation, technology, communication, and humanities).
Deadline for submission of applications to the secretary of the IULA: 20/09/2011
Conditions:
- Duration: 12 months (1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012).
- Amount paid per month: €444.23
- Full/part time: Part time.
- Attendance: Place of work to be assigned by the IULA, with time in the timetable to attend the classes for the Master’s.
Requirements for candidates:
- Applicants shall have a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject (linguistics, translation, IT, information science, communications, humanities, languages).
- Applicants shall be preregistered for one of the UPF’s official Master’s courses.
- Applicants shall not have been in receipt of any similar grant for the official Master’s course.
